What attracted you to the Aon Apprenticeship Programme?

When I finished my A levels I knew that I didn’t want to go to university and had been looking at alternatives towards the end of my exams. I knew that I wanted to get into a financial profession and luckily enough, Aon’s apprenticeship scheme was a way to do just that. There wasn’t many apprenticeships being offered in this industry, and out of the ones that were Aon seemed to be at the forefront of it all. I think the main reason the apprenticeship sounded so enticing was Aon’s size and its global recognition as a business.

What have you learnt in your time at Aon?

I have learnt a lot over the past year here at Aon, one of the main things being professionalism. Coming straight out of college I had no experience of working in an office so it was quite a shock to me on my first day but I soon got to grips with it all and settled in quickly.

What does a typical day look like for you?

It’s hard to describe a typical day for me because each day is different in terms of the work that I do, that’s why I enjoy it so much.

What have you enjoyed most about your Apprenticeship Programme?

The experience as a whole has been fantastic; making networks with other apprentices across the country has been great and will be useful further along in my career. I enjoy the aspect of earning and learning at the same time; it’s comforting knowing at the end of the 3 / 4 years that some of my friends will be at university, I will still have professional qualifications and valuable work experience.

What’s next for you at Aon?

I am continuing doing my exams to further develop my role, I am also looking to apply for a promotion next year.

What advice would you give to someone considering applying for the Aon apprenticeship programme?

My advice would be to go for it! If you are having doubts about university then it is the best alternative, if not a better alternative. The framework is well structured and you will learn a lot and feel part of the team from day one. The opportunity to have full study support and to work for such a highly regarded company in the industry is hard to come by so I would strongly suggest that you apply.
